Help ensure Glossopdale groups don't go without vital funds

Despite Glossop's annual big bonfire and firework display having to be cancelled this year, organisers Glossop and District Round Table still want to ensure that good causes which usually benefit from the event don't miss out on vital funds.

The bonfire and firework spectacular has been the biggest community event in Glossop for decades - traditionally attracting thousands of spectators from across Glossopdale and beyond.

In a good year, it can raise between £10,000 and £15,000 for local charities and community groups.

During the last 12 months, the organisation has donated to Glossopdale Foodbank, Gamesley G52, Whitfield Food Club and Hadfield Coming Together - groups which help their local communities by providing hot meals and food, which is particularly vital in the midst of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Because of Covid-19, the event - which was due to take place on Saturday 7 November - has had to be cancelled for the first time in over 40 years.

However, Hadfield South councillor Ed Siddall - who is also joint chairman of Glossop and District Round Table - together with his colleagues don't want the organisations who rely on the donations to help them to keep going to lose out.

They have set up a JustGiving page, with the aim of raising £10,000. You can donate here: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/glossopanddistrict-roundtable710

In a statement, the Round Table said: "Glossop Round Table are a non-profit organisation. The money we raise on this night is donated to the many charities and good causes within the Glossopdale area.

"We may not be able to host the event this year but the charities still require our help. If you feel you can help please do. There are multiple charities within Glossop that benefit from our support each year and with your help, they will again.

"For more information, please read our story on the JustGiving page and please share this, the more exposure we get the better chance we have to reach our goal."
