Whitfield Food Club in Glossop has been going from strength to strength thanks to a great band of volunteers.
Before Covid-19, people called at the Pure Vibes Youth and Community Centre on Ebenezer Street on Fridays, paid a donation and left with a bag of food.
With the lockdown making this impossible, volunteers then started a system where food is put in a bag and volunteer drivers go to the centre to deliver it ‘in all weathers’.
The figures rocketed from around 30 to 40 people, each collecting a bag of food supplies to deliver to around 120 households.
One of the team said: “All the volunteers have worked really hard at the centre with the deliveries going on way past the lockdown period and people have gone above and beyond to help the team to keep going and make sure no one on the list goes hungry.”
The food help particularly goes to elderly and vulnerable people.
