High Peak bobby back on the beat after Paralympics secondment

A police officer from Buxton’s Safer Neighbourhood Team is back on the beat after helping French police at the Paris Paralympics.

PC Nathan Todd spent a fortnight patrolling the French capital with two Derbyshire Constabulary colleagues, who all won a ‘once in a lifetime' ballot open to Police Support Unit-trained officers.

They worked in busy areas such as metro stations, arena approaches and at events alongside police from different parts of the world.

“My time in Paris was an experience I’ll never forget,” said Stockport-based PC Todd. “The atmosphere was warm and welcoming and there were people from all over the world coming together for one of the biggest events.

“It was a great experience and a once in a lifetime opportunity to get to work in France and see how the police work. They were friendly and very willing to show us how they operate and tackle crime.

“It was also great to see police officers from all over the world ensuring the games went smoothly. At the station I was based at there were officers from Chile, South Korea and Spain.

“I will take numerous memories away from this trip, but it will just be the experience of working alongside French police officers patrolling the streets, carrying out searches and assisting with taking people to custody. I will take all the experiences from Paris to help me continue to develop and be the best officer I can be for Derbyshire police.”

PC Todd, who joined Derbyshire Constabulary full-time in the summer of 2021 after two years as a special constable, was also their Student Officer of the Year in 2022.
