Plans for a new community centre to serve Chinley and Buxworth residents have been boosted by a £28,000 grant from the National Lottery.
Chinley, Buxworth and Brownside Parish Council and the Community Association have announced the good news, which they say means the project to construct a new building can now move forward.
Built in the 1970s, the current building on Lower Lane in Chinley (pictured) is dilapidated and in poor condition.
The new funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, which distributes money raised by National Lottery players for good causes and is the largest community funder in the UK, will pay for the architect and surveys needed to design the new building and to achieve planning permission.
Once this is in place, the parish council and community association will go out to tender and apply for further funding to construct the building.
A consultation will also take place for local residents to have their say and put forward their ideas for the community centre.
The community association said in a statement: "We have our first meeting with architects d3 Associates in early April to kick off the project. Look out for project updates in the coming weeks and months.
"Please have your say when we consult with you, our local community, to ensure we design a building to suit the needs of all our residents now and in the years to come.
"Much work has taken place behind the scenes over the last few years but this funding means we are a big step closer to replacing our dilapidated, but extremely well-used and loved community centre with a modern, sustainable, community building.
"Thank you to the National Lottery players for this opportunity!"
Anyone who would like any further information or wants to get involved in the project can get in touch with Chinley, Buxworth and Brownside Community Association via its Facebook page or email committee@chinleyca.org.uk.
