Members of High Peak Green New Deal were out on the high street in Glossop on Saturday, along with green groups all over the country, to convey their message that urgent investment in green jobs is needed.
They say this not only means solar and wind energy, retrofitting houses and creating sustainable transport, but also creating more and better paid jobs in care, protecting the NHS, investing in education, and a greener and fairer future for all.
A recent study by Green New Deal UK has shown that many more green jobs could be created in the High Peak than those which will be lost to Covid-19. In particular, there is great potential for jobs in restoring the peat on moorlands, which would increase carbon capture, support diversity of wildlife and help to prevent both fires and flooding.
The group say they would like to thank everyone who stopped for a chat on Saturday.
Anyone who would like to know more can find the group on Facebook @HighPeakGreenNewDeal or email highpeakgreennewdeal@gmail.com.
