Jon Pearce has been selected to contest the High Peak parliamentary seat for the Labour Party.
He was on a shortlist of three candidates, alongside Claire Vibert and Anna-Joy Rickard, who were put before a vote of local members.
After the announcement on social media, Jon said: “Hugely honoured to be selected as Labour’s parliamentary candidate for High Peak!
“Thank you so much to local party members - together, we can deliver the change High Peak so desperately needs.”
He has been congratulated by High Peak Labour, who added: “We look forward to the campaigns, conversations, and victories ahead.”
Claire Vibert said: “It wasn’t to be this time but thank you to everyone in High Peak who voted for me today. It’s been a pleasure to speak to so many members over the last few weeks.
“Well done to Jon and I wish him every success in the General Election.”
While Anna-Joy Rickard tweeted: “Congratulations to Jon Pearce - High Peak’s next Labour MP. It was an honour to run a campaign alongside you.”
The new Labour candidate will be looking to regain the seat won by Conservative Robert Largan at the last election in 2019 with a 590 majority.
