Two events will be taking place in the High Peak to commemorate Merchant Navy Day, which takes place on Friday (2 September).
High Peak Borough Council is holding the events on the day - the first at 9:50am for 10:00am at the flag pole by the Band Stand in Pavilion Gardens, Buxton, and the second at 11:50am for midday at the flag pole on Norfolk Square in Glossop.
The events will be short and consist of the borough's Mayor, Councillor Ollie Cross, saying a few words followed by the Red Ensign flag raising.

On this Merchant Navy Day, the Mayor hopes people will support this campaign by Seafarers UK to remember the sacrifices, salute the courage and support the future of the often unsung personnel of our Merchant Navy.
He said: "Too often they are the forgotten or invisible service, by raising the Red Ensign we will ensure at least on this day they are remembered. This will mean so much to their families and to the retired, but most especially to those at sea.”
