High Peak train services set to increase again

There is set to be more trains running between stations in the High Peak and Manchester Piccadilly from next month.

Rail operator Northern Trains Ltd will be increasing services from 14 September, which will include additional trains to allow children to get to and from school in the new academic year.

The Manchester Piccadilly to Hadfield via Glossop service will remain at two services an hour as usual Mondays to Saturdays, and hourly on Sundays.

But the Manchester Piccadilly to New Mills Central line will increase from having one train every two hours (with two additional morning and evening services) to an hourly service from Mondays to Saturdays.

The Manchester Piccadilly to Buxton line will also ramp up from having one train every two hours to one every hour on Sundays.

The Manchester Piccadilly to Sheffield, via New Mills Central, line will continue to have an hourly service from Mondays to Saturdays, but will increase from one train every two hours to two trains every three hours.

The changes are set to be the first timetable alterations on lines in the High Peak since 6 July.

Sharing the news on Facebook, Friends of Buxton Station chairman Dave Carlisle also said: "We are not yet back to the full timetables as they were before Covid-19 but the changes proposed for September get us closer."
