Housing proposal in Whitfield rejected

A bid to build 38 homes on a parcel of grazing land in Whitfield has been turned down by the planning committee.

Bowsall Developments Ltd/Great Places Housing Group were seeking permission to build 10 two bedroom houses, 22 three bedroom, five four bedroom and a three bedroom bungalow. A planted woodland buffer was also proposed.

But it was refused by the High Peak Development Control Committee this week, with councillors recommended to turn the application down.

High Peak Borough Council had received 165 letters and emails objecting to the group’s application to develop land north of St Mary’s Catholic School and Cliffe Road.

The objections ranged from perceived traffic problems to a loss of green belt, an impact on wildlife and an increase in noise. There was also an objection from the school.
