How one Glossop North End fan's dream came true

Glossop North End have made a local 18-year-old's dream come true – by allowing him to become a groundsman for a day.

Alan Luong is an avid supporter of the team and tries to get along to every home match, if his carer Rick Holland is available to take him.

On Thursday (19 May), the pair spent the afternoon working alongside groundskeeper Tommy Ayres.

Rick said: "Alan is an avid fan and thanks to the GNE board we’ve come along to volunteer and give something back to the place he loves visiting so much.

“I try to bring Alan along to as many home games as possible as he absolutely loves it.”

Alan admitted the first time he went to a home game he turned into a “crazy hooligan” and has become a loyal supporter ever since.

He said his time as a groundsman is a “dream come true”.

Glossop North End said on their Facebook page: "Today we were treated to some extra assistance from Alan who helped out with tasks around the ground! Thanks to Compassionate Care Glossop for their help. We're sure Alan enjoyed his time with us this afternoon! We're always looking for opportunities to build our local community engagement! Email chris.read.gne@gmail.com for details."
