Work has begun to improve a footpath in Tintwistle following a campaign by a local woman.
Sara Scott-Rivers launched an online petition, calling for improvements to the surface and lighting on the Cinder Path which links West Drive to New Road.
Workers from Derbyshire County Council have now closed the path and have begun resurfacing works.
Sara said: "I walked up the path one night last October. It was very dark and the surface was uneven, so I thought I’d launch a campaign to improve it as it’s so well used.
“I’m delighted that work has begun to even out the surface and make it easier for those in wheelchairs and with prams. The lighting is a more difficult aspect to tackle. I believe there’s no funding for it at the moment. It would also involve a consultation with local residents and would need planning permission.”
She added: "I am aware of the issue of light pollution to the homes bordering on the path, but we don’t necessarily need street lights. Just low level light which are solar powered would be ideal. I am researching solar lighting at the moment, but I’m aware there’s lots of hoops to jumps through before that happens.”
Local people have told Sara they’re delighted that the path is being improved.
