Introducing the Charlesworth and Chisworth Carnival Royalty for 2023

Charlesworth and Chisworth's Carnival Royalty for 2023

Charlesworth and Chisworth Carnival will be back with brand new Carnival Royalty this year.

The presiding King Riley will be crowning the new Queen Tilly, who - along with Princess Lydia and Rosebud Fleur - will be joining the retiring royalty in the procession on Saturday 8 July.

Organisers say the popular Carnival procession is "alive and kicking" with some "interesting" entries already, but there is plenty of room for more.

A spokesperson said: "We welcome any other groups who wish to enter the procession and join in the fun - just complete and return the form on our website charlesworthcarnival.org.uk. It’s a great way to have fun and get your passions or groups noticed!"

The Carnival procession leaves St Margaret's School in Gamesley at 12:30pm, winding its way through the village to arrive at the Village Green at around 1.15pm.

The new Carnival Royalty will then be crowned before they fire the starting gun on the annual senior and junior fell races.

The day on Charlesworth Village Green promises to be a huge hit, with lots of the usual attractions and some brand new additions. There will also be a selection of food and drink available to purchase on the day, suitable for all tastes.

People who can't make it on the day can still support the event by purchasing bonanza tickets – which are available in all local shops and pubs.

The scarecrow competition is also back with a bang, with all crows predicted to be fleeing the village from 2 July (trail maps are available online). This year’s scarecrow theme is Purple or Coronation.

A spokesperson added: "We can’t wait to see you all again and remember the more the merrier – get your float or walking parade entries in!"
