Joe Wicks surprises pupils in Glossop

Children enjoying their famous visit.

Children in Glossop were left ‘starstruck’ when a famous face dropped into their school.

The pupils at Whitfield St James’ CE Primary School eagerly awaited the arrival of their popular guest, creating artwork to display around their classrooms and sporting their best PE attire.

After keeping the nation active and entertained throughout the pandemic, Joe Wicks pulled into the Chadwick Street school, sending smiles across the playground.

He came with his new friend, a character from his latest book, ‘The Burpee Bears’.

Upon arriving at the school, The Body Coach led the children through a fun-filled workout before reading them the story. This taught them all about the benefits of an active lifestyle and saw them realise just how happy they feel after some movement.

Joe then toured the entire school, greeting all pupils and leaving them with a memory to last a lifetime.

As one of only a handful of schools across the country chosen to receive this visit, members of Whitfield St James were beyond excited to welcome the fitness fanatic through their gates.

Deputy Head Leo Ford beamed with pride as he watched the children enjoying the activities of the day.

“We entered an Instagram competition for Joe’s book tour, so we had him come to our school and the atmosphere for this in the local community has been really impressive.

“The opportunity to have Joe come to our school, as an inspiration and a role model, is going to impact the children for the rest of their lives and words cannot describe how much it means to us as a school.

"We are really pushing reading in our school as it is a key skill for learning and Joe’s book will now be in every classroom for pupils to enjoy whenever they want to,” he said.

A few lucky pupils were also able to win their very own Burpee Bears t-shirt for which they were extremely grateful.

Joe ended his visit by driving through the playground, waving goodbye to all the children as he left. This visit was certainly enjoyable for local pupils, leaving them with everlasting smiles.
