Joining forces for community clean up

Hadfield and Padfield’s latest community clean-up was another huge success with volunteers packing huge black bags with rubbish.

A total of 29 residents (22 adults and seven children) popped down to Carmel Church on Station Road to lend a hand and were treated at the end of the litter pick to a delicious bacon butty from Dolly’s Cafe.

A variety of areas in Hadfield and Padfield were focused on as folk went off in their respective bubbles, including: Bankswood Park, Chapel Lane, Hadfield Town Centre, the Longdendale Trail, Platt Street, the Rec on Temple Street, Roughfields and Vale House Drive.

Ward councillor Ollie Cross said: “I  had a thoroughly enjoyable time at the inaugural Carmel Community Clean-Up.

“I think it’s pretty safe to say that it was a resounding success and excellently organised by Gill Cox , Carmel Church’s community worker, who also made fantastic goodie packs for the children and refreshments for the adults.

“A big thank you to Susan Wilde from Co-op Simmondley for generously donating chocolates and sweets for the goodie packs.

“In addition, thanks to The Bureau and Cllr Ed Kelly for kindly loaning us the litter picks. Moreover, a giant shout-out to High Peak Borough Council for collecting the big pile of litter and debris we collected too.”

Carmel Community Clean-Ups will now take place on the first Saturday of every month. The next litter pick is scheduled for Saturday, May 1.

Everyone’s welcome and all the equipment will be provided, along with hand sanitiser, maps etc.
