Jubilee fun at St Margaret's

Families came out in force for a fun-filled day as St Margaret's Catholic Voluntary Academy in Gamesley celebrated the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in style.

The event at the Glossop Road school last Saturday (21 May) was an ideal opportunity for pupils, parents and the local community to get together after the disruption and restrictions of the last two years due to Covid-19.

St Margaret's School Business Manager Chloe Sammarco came up with the idea of a fun day during the cold winter months last year as a way of celebrating the Queen's remarkable 70 years on the throne - the first British monarch to reach the historic milestone.

After many months of planning, Chloe said the afternoon was a great success which saw everyone pull together and celebrate.

The school would like to thank Kinderview, staff and the PTA, parents, Pony Patch, Peak Active Sport, Glossop Fire Station, All Saints & Immaculate Conception Church in Broadbottom, local PCSOs, stalls holders, the DJ and the live band for their support, and everyone that came to make the day so special.

The school would also like to thank all the local businesses in the area that donated prizes for the Jubilee raffle and all winners were delighted with their prizes.

The celebration ended on a high note with over 150 people taking part in an amazing colour fun run. The children in particular were very excited about getting showered in powder paint of many colours!

Grainne Beaumont, head teacher at St Margaret's, said: "Thank you for everyone for supporting St. Margaret's school; we know we work in a fabulous school and it was lovely to share it with everyone."
