Large knife found near train station

Police have described the discovery of a two-foot-long knife in Buxton as 'deeply troubling'.

The large knife was found by a member of the public sticking out of the ground near to the rear of Buxton train station.

PC Podmore, from Buxton Town Centre Safer Neighbourhood Team, said they were very grateful to the concerned citizen who took the initiative to hand the knife into them.

He said: “This could have been used to cause serious injury to someone, which is deeply troubling, and I would urge everyone to be vigilant to the presence of knives similar to this in the Buxton area, fortunately this knife is now in the process of being destroyed.”

The Knife Bee has recently been in the High Peak to illustrate what weapons like these can do to destroy lives.

PC Podmore urged anyone with information to help support police action in targeting such weapons to contact Derbyshire police, or anonymously via the crime stoppers phone number of 0800 555 111.

Derbyshire police can be contacted via 101, or online through the force’s website or social media.
