Local man completes prestigious London Marathon

Adrian Shaw recently ran this year's London Marathon, raising more than £2000 for the Stroke Association in memory of his father.

Taking part in the world-famous race is something Adrian had always wanted to do, and he completed that goal on Sunday 23 April with a time of 5h 28min.

Adrian said: "It was a great race, with an incredible vibe all the way around the route. The spectators and supporters were awesome, as was the entertainment, both official and unofficial.

"The race was tough in parts, but wasn't too difficult. I'm so glad I took part and completed the race in a time which I'm very pleased with. If this is to be my last marathon, which it more than likely will be, I'm satisfied that I've gone out on a high.

"I've easily surpassed my target of raising £2000.00 for The Stroke Association, with more pledges yet to be collected!"

Explaining his passion for the charity's work, Adrian added: "My father Jack passed away nearly two years ago after suffering a series of strokes.

"He was originally from Stalybridge, but also lived in Mossley for a number of years; he was a firefighter for Cheshire Fire Service, based at Stalybridge Fire Station.

"I've always been proud of the fact that my dad was a firefighter. He helped give something back to the community.

"It was lovely on the day of his funeral - they flew the flag at half mast at Stalybridge Fire Station in respect for him, and it was really touching that they remembered him."
