Snake Pass will be closed this week as engineers install new monitoring equipment on the River Ashop.
The disruption will shut the entire 13-mile section of the A57 between Glossop and Ladybower Reservoir, which the Ashop feeds into, between Monday 16 and Friday 20 September.
The new equipment will also be able to control the flow of the river into the reservoir, with the work taking place between Gillott Hey and Heyridge Farm on the Sheffield side of the summit.
Derbyshire County Council has revealed that there will be more closures on the Snake next month.
The road will again be off limits between Monday 14 and Friday 25 October, when repairs to the area affected by landslips between Woodhouse Cottage and Gillott Hey take place.
The temporary traffic lights will be removed once the work is complete, while the 7.5 tonne weight limit will remain to prevent HGVs from tackling the route.
