Lottery will help to feed foodbank funds

High Peak Foodbank have launched a lottery to raise funds to enable them to continue to support local families in crisis situations.

The foodbank is part of The Zink Project, which operates throughout the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales, providing advice, support into jobs and help to get essential household items like cookers and beds.

Area co-ordinator Paul Bohan (pictured), from Glossop, said: “Demand for Zink’s services has increased during the pandemic.

“The High Peak community has been very generous with donations to help us meet need; we are launching a lottery to keep funds coming in so we can continue to provide vital services.

“Teaming up with One Lottery, a specialist charity lottery provider, is a fun way of donating a small weekly amount and be in with a chance of winning the £25,000 jackpot.

“Good luck to everyone who plays!”

Tickets cost £1 a week, paid monthly, and are entered into a national draw for a £25,000 jackpot and a local draw and other prizes, with 50 per cent of ticket sales going to the charity. Zink also runs Buxton Community Café but this is currently closed due to the pandemic.

The foodbank has been providing around 160 food parcels a week recently and has been supported by Buxton Street by Street and Chapel-en-le-Frith Covid-19 Mutual Aid.

In a typical year, more than 200 people are supported towards work by Employability @Zink and 250 to resolve the issues that caused them to need a foodbank through Advice @Zink. Demand for all services has increased in the last few months.
