A main road between Buxton and Whaley Bridge has fully reopened to traffic following major landslip repairs.
A 40-metre stretch of the A5004 at Shallcross was reduced to a single carriageway in November 2019 following damage to the road surface, pavement and stone wall caused by the ground slipping by up to 1.5 metres.
A complex repair scheme was designed by the county council, which included digging down around six metres to find stable bedrock to build a reinforced earth wall to support the road surface.
Derbyshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Highways Assets and Transport, Councillor Kewal Singh Athwal, said: “Due to climate change, we are seeing much heavier rainfall which has increased the risk of landslips across the county.
“This has been a complex job requiring significant excavations to help us build a new reinforced earth wall to support the road surface.
“I’d like to thank the local community and people who use the road for their patience while the works were completed.”
As part of the works, the stone walls along the route have been rebuilt and the pavement has also been repaired.
The repairs are part of Derbyshire County Council’s three-year £120 million investment programme to improve the county’s roads and transport network.
