Man arrested in Glossop in connection with Middleton stabbing

A man charged in connection with an incident which saw a security guard stabbed multiple times was arrested in the Glossop area.

Greater Manchester Police were called to reports of a stabbing at Middleton shopping centre at around 12.50pm on Saturday 14 August.

A security guard had suffered five serious stab wounds. The 42-year-old man has since been discharged from hospital.

GMP confirmed on Wednesday evening (25 August) that a 19-year-old man has been arrested in woodland in Glossop by officers from its Rochdale team, with support from Derbyshire Police, following 'extensive enquiries' by detectives in Rochdale CID.

The exact location hasn't been revealed by police but Derbyshire Constabulary's Drone Unit said he was found 'hiding in a tent'.

They tweeted: "We have been out and about with our colleagues from Greater Manchester Police looking for a male wanted for attempted murder and we assisted with finding him hiding in a tent in the High Peak area. Great team work."

Luke McSharry, of Weavers Road in Middleton, has been charged with section 18 assault and possession of an offensive weapon.

He has been remanded to appear before Manchester Magistrates' Court on Thursday (26 August).
