Man jailed after being caught with trousers down in library

A pervert has been jailed after being caught with his trousers around his shins in a High Peak library.

46-year-old Jason Carter, of no fixed address, was in a state of undress when spotted in the non-fiction aisle at 4:30pm on Tuesday December 17.

A police spokesperson said: “After being spotted witnesses told officers that Carter pulled up his trousers, grabbed a book and began to start reading through the pages while humming.”

Officers arrested Carter, charging him with breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

An SHPO handed down to him in 2023 restricted him from having deliberate contact or communication with any vulnerable under-16s without the permission of parents or guardians and approval from either social services or the police.

It also prohibited him from forming friendships or relationships without telling the police within 21 days.

He was also ordered not to "engage in sexualised behaviour in the company of any non-consenting person”, nor to expose his genitals where they could be seen by members of the public.

The Derbyshire Constabulary have not released details of which library Carter dropped his trousers in, but he admitted the offence at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on Friday January 3.

The judge sentenced him to six months in prison.
