Members of the Manchester City Glossop Supporters Club have come together to help fund lifesaving treatment for local man Craig Shore, who was diagnosed with a rare form of eye cancer back in 2021.
Members of the supporters club wanted to give back to the community by donating to a local cause, and following a vote among all 165 members, it was decided the sum would be donated to Craig’s fundraising page.
As mentioned, back in 2021, Craig was diagnosed with a rare form of eye cancer known as ocular uveal melanoma.
Due to the rarity of the condition, the NHS were unable to fund Craig’s treatment, which forced him to go private.
Having researched into the options available, Craig and his family found that the best option was to seek treatment called chemotherapy saturation, which is available as a private patient at The Christie.
However, the treatment came at a huge cost- £40,000 per course.
Craig’s family managed to pull together to raise just over £80,000, which was enough to fund the first two courses of treatment.
Thanks to fundraisers like this, Craig has managed to raise enough money to fund the third and final course of treatment, which he will receive later this month.
Craig, who is a lifelong Manchester City fan, was presented with a £500 cheque at the Friendship Inn in Glossop last Thursday (October 3), where the supporters club hold monthly meetings.
There on the night was former Manchester City manager Brian Horton, who gave a unique insight into the world of professional football.
Following the donation, Craig’s partner, Michelle, said:
“We would like to say a massive thank you to the MCFC Glossop Supporters Club for choosing Craig’s fundraiser and donating a massive £500.
“We truly appreciate all the support the Glossop community has and continues to show us- Craig is having his 3rd course of treatment on the 22nd of October and every single penny donated helps to ease the pressure at an already stressful time.”
