Marathon effort for Kinder Mountain Rescue Team

Hayfield-based Kinder Mountain Rescue Team's fundraising towards a new replacement vehicle has been given a welcome boost.

Phil Orton took on the Manchester Marathon at the weekend and has so far raised nearly £600 for his local MRT.

It was a big personal challenge for Phil, who earlier this year could run six miles, to take on the challenge of running 26.2 miles.

Phil, who spends a lot of time in the hills, wanted to support the team’s efforts as they look to raise £85,000 for a new 4x4 vehicle.

He said: “They do a fantastic job of saving lives and helping people in need and they do it as volunteers. Already this year they have been out to dozens of emergencies. So, I’d like to raise as much as I can.”

Kinder MRT currently has two Land Rover Defenders that are getting very old and they hope that when one fails and needs to be replaced the funds will be available for them to do that.

As a self-funded charity, they rely on the generosity of the public to cover running costs and equipment replacement.
