A Memorial Day has been announced to commemorate the life of a well-known Charlesworth man, who died last year.

Ken Dibble died in March 2020 at the age of 88 but his funeral could only be attended by six people because of lockdown.

Local people hope the forthcoming event will give everyone chance to celebrate his passing properly.

Ken Dibble’s 90th birthday would have been celebrated on Wednesday 11 August and now that coronavirus restrictions have eased, his memorial service will be held on Friday 3 September at Top Chapel Charlesworth at 2pm. 

The service will be followed at around 3.15pm by an unveiling of a Blue Plaque in memory of Ken at the main Charlesworth well site by the Primary School on Town Lane.

After that, everyone is invited to go on to a celebration party at Glossop Rugby Club where tea and cakes will be served.

A hot-pot tea will be served around 5.30pm. and the bar will stay open well into the evening.

Ken’s good friend John Hughes says: "It promises to be a great party with a good mix of locals, climbers and rugby players. It will be a great opportunity for folks to recall some of their favourite Ken Dee memories and jokes.”

Ken was a founder member of Glossop Rugby Club, which named part of their ground after him. He was also a member of a local climbing club, the Powsers.
