Mobile police station is touring Whitfield

Residents in the Whitfield area of Glossop have the chance to speak with police about any local issues they may have this week.

Glossop Police's Safer Neighbourhood Team are holding a 'beat sweep' of the area, visiting different parts every day in a mobile police station.

It's being run in conjunction with partner agencies including Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service and Casualty Reduction Enforcement Support Team (CREST).

They said: "The aim is to give the local community a chance to come and speak with us regarding any local issues they have. Please feel free to come along and speak with us or partner agencies (socially distanced of course)."

Councillor Graham Oakley, who represents Whitfield on High Peak Borough Council, told the Chronicle that the mobile police station was in response to incidents of anti-social behaviour in his ward.

He said: "The police came up with the ideas because we were getting a lot of anti-social behaviour."

It followed a meeting with the police when representatives of HPBC, Derbyshire County Council and the People of Whitfield group voiced concerns.

Cllr Oakley said the mobile police station will give residents an opportunity to discuss problems directly with the police and say how they want Whitfield to be policed.

The mobile police station will be at the following locations:

Monday 1 March - Outside the shops on Gladstone Street

Tuesday 2 March - The junction of Kershaw Street and Wood Street

Wednesday 3 March - Cliffe Road, near the Beehive pub

Thursday 4 March - Whitfield Avenue, close to the Charlestown Road junction

Friday 5 March - Cliffe Road, near the allotments

Saturday 6 March - Glossop Gym

Sunday 7 March - Whitfield Cross
