More than £55k raised for farmer quizzed over teenage burglar's death

More than £55k has been raised on a GoFundMe page dedicated to Rob Lomas, a farmer who was quizzed over the killing of a teenage burglar.

Police were called to reports of a burglary at a farm in Whaley Bridge last month.

At the scene a man was found to have sustained fatal gunshot wounds. He was later identified as Marcus Smith, 19, of nearby Chapel-en-le-Frith.

A second man, who is in his teens, was found with a gunshot wound nearby in the same road.

The farmer’s son Joshua Lomas, has set up a GoFundMe page for his Dad which over 3000 people have donated to.

They have raised £58,938 out of a £20,000 target.

On the page, his son wrote: “Rob has the most steadfast loyalty you could ever wish for in a father and friend and has always been there for me, and all of his many friends.”

“As every farmer does, he works relentlessly in all weathers, but always makes time for a brew and a friendly humorous chat.”

“Rob, Kate (his partner) and I now need help in the coming weeks. That's why we need your kind and extremely valuable help.”

A fund-raising page for Marcus is believed to have raised more than £13,000.

It is believed that Rob is remaining on bail whilst enquiries are still continuing.
