A runner taking part in what is described as Britain's most brutal running race needed assistance after they were injured and couldn't continue. 

The competitors were passing through the High Peak at the start of the epic challenge that will end in the Scottish Boarders. 

A coastguard helicopter was called and winched the injured walker down from Crowden Little Brook and Meadow Clough on Sunday (9 January). 

A walker making the most of the break in the wet weather on Saturday afternoon (8 January) needed help after they slipped on mud while walking above Castleton near to Peveril Castle.  

They sustained a painful ankle injury and were treated at the scene before being sledged down by members of Edale Mountain Rescue and taken to hospital by ambulance. 

Members of Buxton MRT were called out on Friday (7 January) to help the East Midlands Ambulance Service, responding to a gentleman suffering a serious medical episode at a remote farm.  

Due to wintry conditions, road access to the farm was hampered by snow and ice. The urgency of the incident and the difficulties caused by the challenging road conditions, air support was requested from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency. 

After being treated by paramedics, the gentleman was placed on to a mountain rescue stretcher and carried to a point where he could be safely placed into the Coastguard Helicopter and then flown to hospital.
