Great fun was had by all at a hard-fought but good-natured bowling match at Manor Park Bowling Club on Sunday (14 August).

The cross-party Mayor versus MP charity bowls match took place in the beautiful surroundings of Glossop's Manor Park in the hot, bright sunshine - all for the benefit of local good causes.

High Peak Mayor Councillor Ollie Cross pitched a team against one which was headed by the borough's MP Robert Largan.

The MP’s team came out on top, at 76-71. However, the Mayor redeemed himself in the head-to-head match, winning 15-11. The matches were great fun and played in very good spirits.

Most importantly, the event raised over £250 for local charities Glossopdale Foodbank, High Peak Community Arts and The Hummingbird Project.

Praising the Bowling Club, the Mayor thanked everyone who made cakes, snacks and supplied refreshments.

He also thanked local business; Billy's Plaice, Boots Hadfield, The Peels Arms Padfield, and Paige Leigh of Serenity who generously donated raffle prizes.

Cllr Cross also thanked stalwart Bowling Club volunteer Joyce Godfrey “for her tireless service to Manor Park Bowling Club over the years and for everything that she continues to do for the club and its members.” He was delighted to present Joyce with an orchid plant as a small token of his appreciation.

MP Robert Largan said he thoroughly enjoyed the day, also thanking everyone who helped put on the match, and to all those who came along to cheer the teams on and to donate. He also thanked Cllr Cross for being such a good sport, saying "it’s really lovely when we can do cross-party events like this for the local community.”

Posting on Twitter, Manor Park Bowling Club thanked both Cllr Cross and MP Largan for taking part in the charity match.
