New bridge over troubled waters

A popular footpath washed away by the recent storms has been replaced by a new wooden bridge.

Wintry weather destabilised a section of the River Goyt’s banks, leading to the footpath’s temporary closure at the Torrs Riverside Park in New Mills last weekend.

The town council estimates the cost of repairs, construction of the new bridge and removal of a fallen tree will be around £750, which will come from their own funds.

“I am pleased to report that the footpath has now been reopened,” Cllr Steve Davey, the Chair of New Mills Town Council told the Chronicle.

“Our fantastic Parks team at New Mills Town Council have been working hard in recent days to ensure that the path could be reopened as soon as possible.”
