New chapter ahead for Glossop book shop

Mel O'Brien (left) and Sarah Woolley at Bay Tree Books in Glossop.

Eighteen years ago, the Chronicle told you the story of a Glossop book shop...

Sarah Woolley bought the shop on High Street West in 2003 after its then owner John Hewson made a plea to find a new owner.

The Chronicle stepped in to help out and Sarah saw the article.

She went to see John and after discussing it with her husband, she bought it.

Now it’s her turn to hand over Bay Tree Books to a new owner.

Sarah said: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my 18 years at the shop. But now it’s time for me to pass it on to somebody else”.

Sarah’s last day will be on Saturday (12 June) and new owner Mel O’Brien will be taking the next week to find her feet.

She will be reopening on 19 June, which coincides with the start of Independent Bookshop Week.
