New parish councillors in Chapel

As well as the battle for county council seats and the role of Police and Crime Commissioner, Thursday's election also saw another tussle to secure a seat on Chapel-en-le-Frith Parish Council.

Four independent candidates were contesting the Chapel West ward where three seats were available.

Nick Hill topped the poll with 993 votes, Michael Brian Barton secured 825 votes, with Alistair Beswick taking the final spot with 742 votes. Missing out was David Tony Benning who polled 519 votes.

The turnout for the election was 40.57 per cent.

The three successful candidates join Mike Chantler as new councillors after he was elected unopposed in the Barren Clough, Combs and Whitehough ward.

There are still four vacancies on the Parish Council, two in the Chapel East Ward and two in Dove Holes and Martinside Ward after no-one put themselves forward for the role.
