Glossop Cat Rescue only opened at the start of this month but has already re-homed 19 cats and kittens.

Now a cattery has been built at its Old Glossop base, the Rescue having been founded by Nicola Ormerod, Julie Banks, Margaret O’Connell and Maxine Langtree. All four are fostering cats and kittens until the animals find forever homes.

The new cattery has been funded by a generous benefactor who wishes to remain anonymous.

It already has its first residents -12-year-old Freddy who needs vet treatment - plus Nala and her three kittens.

The rescue is a charity and relies on donations and fundraising to help pay for food and vet care. Several strays that have been brought in have been neutered and spayed.

Nicola says: “The new cattery has been called Bella Vista, but we will still be keeping cats in our homes until we can afford to expand more.

“Julie also has three kittens in her house which were found in the back of a dumped sofa. We’re hoping Freddy will get his issues sorted next and then he can go up for adoption.”

Julie adds: “It’s astonishing how many cats and kittens are just thrown out onto the streets in Glossop. We aim to provide adequate shelter to those cats who are in need and the staff to provide that care and we will raise money to provide any medical care needed for our cats.

“We will assess and rehome these cats providing suitable home checks so they go to the right homes for their individual needs.

“All adult cats will be chipped, have flea treatment and be wormed and will leave our care neutered.”
