The Post Office has confirmed there are no plans to close the current branch in Gamesley despite rumours to the contrary.
The postal company has said the branch on Winster Mews remains open and it is working to find a permanent solution to secure the service’s future.
High Peak Borough Council leader Cllr Anthony Mckeown, who represents the Gamesley ward, said: “Despite rumours continuing to circulate around the future of the post office on Winster Mews, as recently as Friday the Post Office confirmed there are no plans to change the current branch at present.
“The Post Office occupies one of the Council’s shops on Winster Mews and we want to see it continue as a Post Office. We will be happy to work with the Post Office to see that happen.”
Residents had met with MP Robert Largan to raise concerns about rumours that the Gamesley branch was set to be closed.
The High Peak MP said: “It is very important to me that Gamesley retains a local Post Office accessible and the Winster Mews location is ideal.
“I am concerned that without the Post Office on Winster Mews, residents would be forced to travel instead to Simmondley, Hollingworth, Charlesworth or Hadfield.
“Royal Mail must find a permanent solution to keep Gamesley Post Office open and operating as usual.”
