Northern Rail intend to introduce car parking charge at local train stations

New Mills Town Council have been notified of the intention to expand the car parking system charge at a number of car parks including New Mills New Town train station from early May 2024.

"The charges are to be introduced to ensure sufficient space is available for rail customers, to discourage non-rail users from parking all day whilst at the same time allowing overnight parking for residents, subject to vacating the car park by 08.00 hrs enabling spaces to be available for rail users, to help us to fund investment schemes across our car park portfolio and reduce our reliance on taxpayer subsidy.” says the council.

The fees have been benchmarked against other car parking charges across the North, at £2 all day or 50p for a short stay (2 hours or overnight 4pm - 8am).

The following stations are proposed for the scheme: Disley, New Mills Newtown and Whaley Bridge.
