The barrels must have been floating in the cellars of the appropriately named Spring Tavern when this photograph was taken in March 1946.
What looks like a river in the centre of the shot is the A57 at Brookfield, the victim of more flooding as the River Etherow burst its banks.
It always happened after periods of heavy rain, the water swilling over the field on the left, across the road and into the cellar of the pub, which has since been converted into homes.
The Spread Eagle, now derelict, at the junction of Woolley Lane, was also flooded.
Both pubs had to be pumped out by the then called National Fire Service.
