Are there ghostly goings-on in Glossopdale or are all the creaks and bangs a product of an over-rich imagination?
We have recently reported on a Halloween ghost hunt around the old Woodhead Tunnel which unearthed nothing supernatural.
We also reported on an all-night vigil in the then Glossop Co-op store (which is now the home of B and M) on Norfolk Street, with everyone feeling we had ‘witnessed something’.
Then around 20 years ago something closer to home.....like the then Glossop Chronicle offices on High Street West.
It was an old building, we had all heard creaking sounds and there had been what the paranormal experts call ‘peripheral visions’, something you suspect you have seen from the corner of your eye.
We had a visit one day from Mike Greaves from Glossop Paranormal Society who claimed to have seen the apparition of a Victorian woman in a long black dress with a white apron at the top of the stairs.
All I can say is that I worked in the office, sometimes alone, and used the stairs from 8am, and at times up until 10pm, often when all was quiet and dark and I never heard or saw anything.
