There was consternation in the local corridors of power when a parcel with a difference dropped on the front desk of Glossop Municipal Buildings.
For, when the brown paper was carefully peeled away around 50 years ago by a public health inspector it was found to contain a well wrapped wasps’ nest.
Thankfully for the unnamed staff member who opened it, all the inhabitants were dead so there was no risk of a nasty sting.
The nest, which had a circumference of 45 inches, had been found in the roof space of a house in Glossop by the council’s public health team.
It had been sprayed and taken down intact, but why it was delivered to the Municipal Buildings Glossop Town Council never find out, or at least they never told us.
