As part of efforts to reduce speeding traffic, Charlesworth Parish Council are looking to obtain Speed Indicator Devices available through a new initiative being trialled.
SIDs are a type of electronically activated sign used to accurately measure oncoming vehicle speed and promote driver awareness of local speed limits.
The devices have a proven track record to reduce traffic speeds at appropriate locations and are mostly used in areas with speed restrictions already in place.
Derbyshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Angelique Foster is promoting the use of SIDs on roads across the county.
During the trial, villages would be able to apply for a maximum of three signs at sites where there are local concerns over speed.
Councillors in Charlesworth, who were already looking into purchasing SIDs, are to make an application to the Police and Crime Commissioner.
Plans to co-opt new member
Meanwhile, Charlesworth Parish Council could soon have a new councillor.
The council are looking to co-opt and a member of the parish has come forward.
Councillors agreed to invited them to attend the next Parish meeting to meet with the current council members.
