Wildlife, climate change and sustainable farming should be focuses of the Peak District National Park Authority over the next 20 years, according to members of the public.
More than 1,500 people took part in a consultation run by the authority with the aim of identifying key aspects of the National Park Management Plan and Corporate Strategy, which maps out the future of the Peak District.
A report into the plan stated: “An initial look at responses suggests that respondents’ priorities are around nature recovery and wildlife, climate change, sustainable farming and land management, water and natural beauty.”
These responses, alongside more technical evidence and input from key organisations including Natural England, YHA, Historic England, National Trust, D2N2 and Chatsworth House Trust, will be used to shape the vision of the national park’s future.
A meeting of the National Park Authority agreed the finished plan needs to be ready to be adopted by September next year, so that it can then be implemented in April 2023.
