Pensioner 'taken ill at the wheel' in Little Hayfield

A pensioner received treatment for minor injuries after it is understood he was taken ill at the wheel and his car ended up on its roof.

An 83-year-old man was driving a blue Volvo S80 along Glossop Road in Little Hayfield on Thursday afternoon when the accident occurred.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Constabulary told the Chronicle: "We received a call just after 12.40pm to reports of a single-vehicle collision.

"It looks like the driver of the car, an 83-year-old man, was taken ill at the wheel as his car was rolling and unfortunately it ended up on its roof.

"We were called by East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) who went along. The man was able to get out of his car and had minor injuries. He was taken for treatment. The car has been recovered and the road has re-opened."

Glossop Road, between Monks Road and New Mills Road, was closed for around 45 minutes before re-opening at around 2.20pm.
