Plans for a detached home in Glossop and six new apartments in Whaley Bridge feature in our latest round-up of planning applications in the High Peak.

A number of planning applications have been submitted to High Peak Borough Council of late. They include: 

• New commercial development comprising two new buildings and associated car parking on land off New Road in Whaley Bridge               
• Conversion of the upper storeys of the existing buildings at 2, 4 and 6, Henry Street, and 8 Railway Street in Glossop from office to residential accommodation and a new side extension. 
• Change of use of agricultural building to a dwelling house at Castle Edge Farm, Castle Edge Road, New Mills 
• First floor side extension, single storey rear extension and garage conversion at 7 Winnats Close, Glossop 

Plans Approved 

Plans that have been given the go ahead and approved by the borough council include: 

• Single storey rear extension at 1 Cherry Tree Court, Chapel-en-le-Frith 
• Single storey side and rear extension at 3 Craig Drive, Whaley Bridge 
• Partial demolition of existing derelict element and conversion of barn at Storth Brow Farm, High Lane, Simmondley 
• Single storey rear extension at 86 Marple Road, Charlesworth 
• Demolition of existing conservatory and single storey rear extension at 43 Hope Street, Glossop 
• Single storey rear and side extension at 49 Glossop Road, Gamesley 
• Single storey rear and side extension to replace existing conservatory at The Firs, Talbot Road, Glossop 

Six new apartments planned in Whaley Bridge 

New plans have been submitted for a historic building in the centre of Whaley Bridge. 

The Jodrell Arms, a listed building, was formerly a bar and hotel but has been closed for many years. 

Now an application has been submitted to High Peak Brough Council that would retain the bar on the ground floor with residential accommodation provided above. 

The proposals are to create six apartments on the first and second floor of the building these would comprise of two one-bedroomed, three two-bedroomed and one three-bedroomed property. 

New home plans rejected 

Plans for a detached home to be built on land adjacent to 70 Surrey Street, in Glossop have been refused by High Peak Borough Council. 

The negative overbearing impact the development would have on the neighbouring property that would also lead to a loss of sunlight was one of the reasons given. 

Planners also determined that the proximity of principal windows to site boundaries and the lack of useable private amenity space would mean the development failed to provide an adequate standard of amenity for future occupiers of the new property. 

The third reason for refusal was the failure of the design and visual appearance of the proposed new home to respect the existing character and appearance of the immediate and wider street scene.
