The plaque in memory of village hero Ken Dibble is ready to be installed and it will go at a place close to his heart.
The organisers of a fund, set up to honour Ken, want it to go on a wall near the well on Town Lane, Charlesworth, near the primary school.
Ken, who died last year at the age of 88, had been helping to stage the well dressings for as long as anyone can remember and one of his main duties involved hoisting the huge tableaux at School Well.
Bill Deakin, a close friend of Ken, says the plaque will be installed when people will be allowed to attend without breaching Covid-19 regulations.
There is still some money left in the memorial fund and a small group of his friends are looking at how it should be spent.
One way would be to make Ken’s grave and the surrounding area at ‘Top Chapel’ into a place that people can visit.
With that in mind, a working party has been set up of people from the village, Glossop Rugby Club, which Ken helped to found, and his friends, which is hoping to improve access to the grave and do some ‘sympathetic landscaping’.
Other ideas to perpetuate Ken’s memory are also being explored.
