Plea to respect the countryside ahead of sunny spell

With more warm weather on the way, fire crews in the High Peak are urging people planning to visit the Peak District this weekend to respect the countryside and stay safe.

That's the message from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service and Chapel On Call Fire Station.

Their advice includes urging people NOT to:

  • throw matches or cigarette ends out of vehicles, or stub them out in moorland vegetation or peat
  • light fires, barbecues or gas stoves on moorland
  • leave glass bottles, which can magnify the sun's rays and start a fire

People are being urged to take their rubbish with them and "leave no trace of your visit".

Fires or suspicious behaviour should be reported immediately by dialling 999, giving your exact location or nearest landmark.

Visitors are also being asked to respect all warning signs and the countryside code.
