Police issue warning to parents

Police have warned parents that youths "causing issues in our community" will be "dealt with in the appropriate way" after a spate of anti-social behaviour incidents in Hadfield.

Officers from the Safer Neighbourhood Team are again asking parents to make sure they are aware of what their children are doing, and are also urging residents to report any incidents directly to the police - and not through social media.

One youth was arrested last week, and another is being interviewed by police in relation to anti-social behaviour offences.

Police add that four other young people have received anti-social behaviour nuisance letters about their behaviour and their parents are aware of their involvement.

Glossop Police SNT said on Facebook: "The letters form part of the evidence gathering procedure, where if the behaviour does not stop, then further measures will be taken. The letters act as a proof of poor behaviour and parents being made aware of their children's activities.

"Two others will be spoken to in front of parents in relation to reports of throwing items at an address in Hadfield.

"One young person has admitted his involvement in relation to damaging a door [Criminal Damage] and will be dealt with by way of Restorative Justice as a resolution - this was agreed by the victim."

They went on: "We ask that parents ensure their children refrain from causing issues in our community. They be aware that if we identify those responsible the Police will be visiting and dealing with them in the appropriate way.

"We ask residents to report these activities to the Police at the time and if known the names and addresses of those causing the issues."

Police also say that local schools are aware of the problem and are being supportive.
