Glossop Police Safer Neighbourhood Team have issued an alert to van owners after a spate of break-ins.
The most recent area to be targeted is Hadfield, in which van owners have suffered significant damage to their vehicles as thieves aim to steal valuable tools. The photo is of damage that occurred to a van parked in Hadfield on Wednesday night.
Whilst conducting their enquiries and investigations, the Police want to spread awareness and advise van owners of the following measures to protect their property:
Secure Your Van:
1. Park in well-lit areas with high foot traffic.
2. Install additional locks like deadbolts and puck locks.
3. Use alarm systems with motion sensors.
4. Add barriers to windows and between the cabin and the back of the van.
5. Avoid advertising your business on the van to reduce attention.
Protect Your Tools:
1. Mark your tools with identifiable information.
2. Keep an inventory of all your tools, including serial numbers and photos.
3. Invest in tool insurance to cover losses.
4. Avoid leaving tools in the van overnight whenever possible.
5. Use surveillance cameras to monitor your van and tools.
There will be increased patrols around the local area, and the public are asked to report any information that may be of assistance.
The team will also be running free tool marking events – further details to be provided.
