Pooles Cavern is back open

Buxton's Pooles Cavern and Country Park has welcomed visitors for the first time since lockdown was imposed in March.

The popular tourist attraction on Green Lane reopened on Monday (20 July) for small group tours of no more than 10 people in the cavern, with two tours per hour to begin with.

Bosses say hand sanitiser stations are in place at the entrance and throughout the visitor centre, while staff have been fully trained and there is regular cleaning.

A limited outdoor takeaway food service is also available for the summer.

Tours of the cavern must be pre-booked online only by heading to https://poolescavern.co.uk/, where more information can be found about what to expect when you visit.

A statement on the Pooles Cavern website said: "We have everything in place, and are good to go to comply with the latest government and tourism industry guidance to make a safe and comfortable experience for everyone."

Owned by charity Buxton Civic Association, the two-million-year-old natural limestone cave attraction usually has around 56,000 visitors a year, including people from all over the world.
