Powsers raise cash for Reuben’s Retreat

Following their annual charity walk, Glossop based Powsers Mountaineering Club presented a cheque to Reuben’s Retreat Fundraising Champion, Lisa Coggin, at the Crown Inn, Glossoplast week. Including gift aid, the Powsers raised over £1,750.

On a chilly overcast day in June, fifteen club members did a 23km section of the New Mills Parish Boundary Walk. The scenic route from New Mills had plenty of ups and downs, taking in Furness Vale, Chinley Churn, passing Lantern Pike to Rowarth, then down to Strines and back via the Torrs Millenium Walkway.

Club stalwart Brian Barnes said: “The Powsers have been doing charity walks for worthy causes for almost 40 years. This year’s event has been another brilliant team effort to raise cash and public awareness for Reuben’s Retreat, a tremendous local charity. We last supported them in 2019 and our members were so moved by the great work that Lisa and her colleagues are doing, it was an easy decision to choose them as our charity beneficiary again this year”.

“A huge thanks to all those who took part, sponsored us and assisted with the event. Our club is out on the hills every Sunday and we have lots of trips to mountain areas farther afield in the UK and abroad. We welcome new members. To find out more about our activities visit “The Powsers” on Facebook or email us at thepowsers@gmail.com”.

Brian added, “Reuben’s Retreat is an amazing and unique local charity providing support and counselling for parents and siblings of children with life threatening or life limiting illness and for those who have lost their precious child, brother or sister. More funding is required to deliver the next phases of this tremendous ongoing project to create a sanctuary that will be a home-from-home to provide respite breaks for families dealing with the serious illness of a child. Visit Reuben’s Retreat https://www.reubensretreat.org/ for more information”.
