Proposals for 51 homes to be built on Cottage Lane in Gamesley cause local controversy

The woods where the homes would be built.

Housing developers have proposed to build 51 homes in Gamesley and the local community are not happy about it.

If building work gets approved, developers would be building 51 properties, including 1-3 bedroom homes as well as apartments which would be used as social housing.

The developers would be tearing up part of the woods at the back of the houses on Cottage Lane, causing disruption to local residents but also to nature and the well used bridal path.

Residents have voiced their concerns over the plans due to the effect it would have on the area.

Jayne Greenall from Gamesley told the Chronicle why she objects to the plans, she said:”I think it is very important to stress what a negative impact this development is likely to have on the mental health of the residents on Cottage Lane.”

“This development is going to be built very close to our back garden areas and we will become completely open. Currently, we can use our bathrooms and bedrooms comfortably. If this development goes ahead the people in the flats/houses will be able to see straight into our homes.”

Like many, Jayne worries about the effect the 51 dwellings will have on the nature around the area, she added: “The biodiversity aspect is hugely important. We just continue to tear up habitat and push our wildlife further into the abyss. At some point, this has to stop. We need our local Council to take responsibility and refuse this development on the grounds of the biodiversity aspect but also the damage to people’s mental health.”
Residents have also come together to create a Facebook group objecting the plans: https://www.facebook.com/groups/777809314175430
