The redevelopment of a former New Mills church could soon be taking another step forward.
Monday’s meeting of High Peak Development Control Committee is being recommended to approve the latest planning application in respect of the ruins of Mount Pleasant Chapel on Spring Bank.
The plea, submitted by Carolyn Bannister, is for Class E (business, commercial and service) use on the ground floor and two dwellings on the ground and first floors.
The plans are for the demolition of the unsafe parts of the structure and includes the remains of the roof, rear chimney and the top of the walls to the rear Sunday school building.
Also the plans include construction access to the rear chapel wall and the clearing of the interior of the building of scrub from the fire damaged section down to the ‘good ground’.
The application package also includes constructing a temporary gravel access road via Aldersgate across land owned by New Mills Town Council, known as Co-op Fields, at the back of the chapel and a gravelled area for a site office and equipment storage while the development is taking place.
